Happy St. Patrick's - Quarantine Day!

Happy St. Patrick’s - Quarantine Day! I know you’re stuck at home browsing Facebook and wondering when the world is going to end. That’s why I thought it would be nice to give you some different reading material!

I took this photo in Aix the day the President declared all shops closed. People were still out and about as the full quarantine wasn’t in place.

Here in Aix, things have been pretty normal up until about two days ago when the president declared all shops, restaurants and bars closed. Yesterday, we went full quarantine mode and when I went out today, the main people on the street were, very sadly, the homeless and a random video crew trying to get footage of this epic weirdness. Even though the lock down is full-blown, I did spy my favorite niche eastern grocery open and the Piadina place down the street, which definitely does not count as a necessity.

The flower market was in full swing just a few days ago. At that point, Italy was already on lockdown, but things were very normal in Aix.

Besides the city resembling a ghost town, not that much changes in my day-to-day except maybe my daily sit and stare at the cathedral with coffee. Working online definitely has its advantages, and all the art that’s in progress in my apartment is going to get the full attention it deserves during this quarantine.

Just because I’m not in New Orleans doesn’t mean I’m not making New Orleans art - This oil painting of Snake and Jake’s bar is getting daily layers with the palette knife.

Speaking of Snake and Jake’s, it’s not St. Patrick’s Day without a shout out to my favorite irish bar in New Orleans, Finn McCool’s, which is sadly closed today. I made a daytime and night time Finn’s last year for commissions as well as a Mardi Gras Float themed Finn’s. It’s so much fun making art of the special places NOLA people love.

This is my night time Finn’s which I made in Chalk Pastel and Acrylic Paint.

Day time Finn’s is also made in Chalk Pastel and Acrylic Paint on Paper.

My lovely friend Olivia (seen here) decided she needed not only a Finn’s art but an art that made her into Finn’s and vise versa. What we came up with was this Mardi Gras Olivia Finn’s Float.

So, even though you can’t be at your favorite Irish pub today, at least you can look at this Irish Bar art! It’s a weird time out there, so I can only leave you with this virus killing song (good vibes are essential) from my childhood musician idol, Beth Patterson. Stay well and keep it together out there!
