QUIET SUNSET

Quiet,
and free.
My feet press their boots
into the earth, grounded.
The path takes us,
my two companions bounding
through meadows wide,
to another place far removed
a dreamscape, enchanted
by the sweet touch of the distant sun
auburn and brown and deepest yellow
resting just there
among grass dancing
golden and rich
with the spirit of knowing and
unknowing.

Walking in a quiet field every evening in the South of France was the inspiration for this piece and, truly, for this entire collection.

I spent two weeks in Luynes, France with two incredible dogs at the beginning of May this year. Every night we would go set our spirits free in this expanse of nature, sky, earth, grass and all the things my soul had been craving.

Details
This is a chalk pastel and acrylic paint on paper. As you can see from the photos, I kept the ragged edge on this paper intact, which gives this piece even more texture and rich feeling. It is framed floating with room to breathe and show all its lovely edges and paper waves.

This is a chalk pastel on fine art, heavy mat paper. Matted in the traditional style, I kept the burnt red chalk edge showing with which I created my drawn “frame” when making this piece.

I think of the deep blue the sky holds at night out on the water, and the reflection of the moon on the surface of the sea, scattered and united by their own immensity.
